Amalan mandi itu dilakukan semata-mata untuk menyingkirkan kekotoran—tiada tujuan lain. Ia hendaklah dilakukan di tasik dan kolam, di tempat suci (tīrtha), dan di sungai-sungai, termasuk takungan yang dikatakan digali oleh para dewa.
