Lord Vishnu (in dialogue with Garuda)
Concept: Pathya (wholesome regimen) sustains health and steadiness of mind.
Vedantic Theme: Sharira as sādhanā—care of the body as an instrument for dharma and spiritual pursuit.
Application: Prefer śāli rice and mudga; use suitable rainwater/boiled milk; employ neem/atasī/kusumbha and śigru/sarṣapa oils judiciously as diet-supportive measures.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.172 (Ayurveda/pathya section, surrounding verses on diet and therapies)
The verse lists pathya (wholesome) items to preserve health and balance across seasons, supporting purity, discipline, and the ability to perform religious duties.
It does so indirectly: by promoting a regulated, sattva-supporting diet, it reinforces the moral-spiritual framework that the Purana links with merit and wellbeing.
Prefer simple, digestible staples and protective botanicals in season, keep milk properly prepared (boiled), and adopt moderation rather than excess.
