Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda)
Dosha: Vata
Concept: Restore proper directionality (anulomana) and remove obstruction; right medium (ghrita) supports assimilation and pacification.
Vedantic Theme: Order (rita-like regularity) in bodily functions mirrors inner order; correcting ‘reverse flow’ symbolizes returning to natural law.
Application: Administer the specified powder with ghee for udavarta-like symptoms, alongside regimen that reduces vata aggravation.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.170 (udavarta, anaha, vibandha remedies; ghrita as anupana)
Here udāvarta is an obstructive disorder where vāta moves in the wrong (upward) direction, producing distress; the verse prescribes a powder to counteract it.
The verse specifies ingestion with ghee, consistent with ghee’s traditional role as a carrier (anupāna) that supports vāta-pacification and delivery of the formulation.
It underscores that relieving obstruction and calming vāta are key principles; alkaline salts and purgatives should be used carefully and preferably under Ayurvedic supervision.
