Arśa-nidāna: Causes, Prodrome, Doṣa-types, and Complications of Hemorrhoids
Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vainateya)
Dosha: Mixed
Concept: Bodily qualities arise from doṣas; aggravation has identifiable causes—therefore one should avoid provocations and live with restraint.
Vedantic Theme: Guṇa-kārya-bhāva (effects follow causes) applied to the body; disciplined conduct as a support for sattva and clarity.
Application: Use dryness/moistness as diagnostic cues; reduce doṣa-provoking habits and environmental triggers; maintain cleanliness and appropriate clothing/comfort to prevent aggravation.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.156.9 (doṣa intermixture); Garuda Purana 1.156.11 (specific provocations: drink, diet, etc.)
This verse links observable bodily qualities—dryness and moistness—to vāta/kapha and pitta, showing that imbalance (doṣa-prakopa) can be inferred from signs and from known causes described earlier.
Indirectly: by emphasizing bodily doṣa disturbance and its causes, it frames how embodied life is affected by physiological imbalance—background knowledge often used in Purāṇic discussions of health, suffering, and the conditions shaping one’s experience.
Use it as a simple diagnostic cue: persistent dryness suggests vāta/kapha involvement, persistent excess moisture/oozing suggests pitta involvement—prompting lifestyle, diet, and cleanliness practices that reduce doṣa aggravation.
