Lord Vishnu (narrating genealogical succession to Garuda)
Concept: Vaṃśa-smṛti (remembrance of lineage) as a support for dharma and social order.
Vedantic Theme: Anityatā of individual lives contrasted with continuity of saṃskāra and dharma-stream.
Application: Use lineage/ancestral remembrance to cultivate humility, responsibility, and fidelity to one’s duties.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.140 (surrounding vaṃśānucarita verses)
This verse preserves lineage-memory (vaṃśa) by listing successive births, a Purāṇic method for connecting dharma, rulership, and sacred history across generations.
It does not directly describe the after-death journey; instead, it situates the teaching within Purāṇic history by tracing human succession through named ancestors.
Maintain truthful family and cultural records, honor ancestors responsibly, and view one’s actions as shaping the moral legacy passed to future generations.
