Continuation and Future of the Sūrya-vaṁśa: From Kuśa to the Last Ikṣvāku King
एते हीक्ष्वाकुभूपाला अतीता: शृण्वनागतान् । बृहद्बलस्य भविता पुत्रो नाम्ना बृहद्रण: ॥ ९ ॥
ete hīkṣvāku-bhūpālā atītāḥ śṛṇv anāgatān bṛhadbalasya bhavitā putro nāmnā bṛhadraṇaḥ
Semua raja dalam keturunan Ikṣvāku ini telah berlalu. Kini dengarkan raja-raja yang akan lahir pada masa hadapan. Daripada Bṛhadbala akan lahir putera bernama Bṛhadraṇa.
It concludes the account of the past Ikṣvāku kings and begins the listing of future rulers, stating that Bṛhadbala will have a son named Bṛhadrāṇa.
While narrating sacred history to Mahārāja Parīkṣit, Śukadeva presents the dynastic succession to show continuity of dharma through royal lineages and to situate later events in time.
Remembering that generations pass and new ones arise encourages humility and a focus on lasting spiritual goals—hearing and remembering the Lord—rather than temporary prestige.
