The Dynasty of Vaivasvata Manu Begins — Ilā/Sudyumna and the Birth of Purūravā
This verse shows that hearing the valor and sacred fame of the Lord’s renowned devotees and righteous rulers—past, present, and future—is desirable because such kīrtī (fame) is purifying and spiritually beneficial.
Parīkṣit, eager to hear Bhāgavatam in a spirit of devotion, requests Śukadeva to narrate the exploits of all sanctified, famous personalities across time—setting the stage for the genealogies and histories of the solar and lunar dynasties in Canto 9.
Choose to hear, read, and remember the lives of saintly devotees and dharmic leaders; replacing trivial talk with sacred narratives strengthens values, faith, and inner clarity.
