Kāliya-damana: Kṛṣṇa Subdues the Serpent and Purifies the Yamunā
According to the ācāryas, the Lord spoke this verse to make it clear to Kāliya that he could by no means remain in the Yamunā lake. Although the Lord had mercifully pardoned the serpent and ordered him to go to the ocean with all his associates, Kāliya should not even consider requesting to remain in the lake, because it was now to become a holy place for spiritual pilgrims.
This verse says that bathing at Kṛṣṇa’s pastime place, offering water oblations, fasting, and worshiping Him while remembering Him frees one from all sins.
After subduing Kāliya, Kṛṣṇa glorifies His own līlā-sthalī (pastime place) and teaches that devotion—remembrance and worship of Him—purifies even deeply conditioned souls.
Adopt the essence: regular remembrance of Kṛṣṇa, sincere worship, and periodic fasting or self-discipline, along with offerings and prayers—using these as acts of bhakti and purification.
