Tīrtha-yātrā: Phalaśruti and Sacred Geography from Lohitya to Prayāga
Pulastya’s Instruction
पवनस्य हवदे स्नात्वा मरुतां तीर्थमुत्तमम् । तत्र स्नात्वा नरव्याप्र विष्णुलोके महीयते,नरव्याप्र! तदनन्तर पवनहृदमें स्नान करे। वह मरुद्गणोंका उत्तम तीर्थ है। वहाँ स्नान करनेसे मानव विष्णुलोकमें प्रतिष्ठित होता है
pavanasya hṛdade snātvā marutāṁ tīrtham uttamam | tatra snātvā naravyāghra viṣṇuloke mahīyate ||
घूलस्त्य म्हणाला—“नरव्याघ्र! पवनह्रदात स्नान कर; ते मरुतगणांचे उत्तम तीर्थ आहे. तेथे स्नान केल्याने मनुष्य विष्णुलोकात प्रतिष्ठित व सन्मानित होतो.”
घुलस्त्य उवाच
The verse teaches the purifying and elevating power of tīrtha-yātrā (pilgrimage): sincere bathing at a sanctified place associated with divine beings (here Pavana and the Maruts) is said to generate spiritual merit that leads to honor and an exalted posthumous state (Viṣṇuloka).
A speaker named Ghūlastya directs a heroic listener (“naravyāghra”) to bathe at Pavana’s lake, identified as the foremost sacred ford of the Maruts, and states the fruit of that act—being honored and established in Viṣṇu’s realm.
