वैशम्पायन उवाच ततो युधिषछिरो राजा नकुलं वाक्यमब्रवीत् । आरुह्द वृक्ष माद्रेय निरीक्षस्व दिशो दश,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--तदनन्तर राजा युधिष्ठिरने नकुलसे कहा--“माद्रीनन्दन! किसी वृक्षपर चढ़कर सब दिशाओंमें दृष्टिपात करो। कहीं आस-पास पानी हो, तो देखो अथवा जलके किनारे होनेवाले वृक्षोंपर भी दृष्टि डालो। तात! तुम्हारे ये भाई थके-माँदे और प्यासे हैं!

वैशम्पायन म्हणाले— त्यानंतर राजा युधिष्ठिर नकुलाला म्हणाला— “माद्रीपुत्रा! एखाद्या वृक्षावर चढून दहा दिशांकडे नीट पाहा।”
