पात्रे दानं स्वल्पमपि काले दत्तं युधिष्ठिर मनसा हि विशुद्धेन प्रेत्यानन्तफलं स्मृतम्,युधिष्ठिर! यदि विशुद्ध मनसे उत्तम समयपर सत्पात्रको थोड़ा-सा भी दान दिया गया हो तो वह परलोकमें अनन्त फल देनेवाला माना गया है
pātre dānaṃ svalpam api kāle dattaṃ yudhiṣṭhira manasā hi viśuddhena pretyānantaphalaṃ smṛtam | yudhiṣṭhira! yadi viśuddhamanase uttamasamaye satpātrako thoḍā-sā bhī dāna diyā gayā ho to vah paralok meṃ anant phal dene-vālā mānā gayā hai |
युधिष्ठिरा, विशुद्ध मनाने योग्य काळी सत्पात्राला दिलेले अल्प दानही परलोकात अनंत फल देणारे मानले जाते.
व्यास उवाच
The verse teaches that the moral quality of giving depends not on quantity but on three factors: the worthiness of the recipient (pātra), the appropriateness of the time (kāla), and the purity of the giver’s intention (viśuddha-manas). Even a small gift given under these conditions yields limitless merit in the afterlife.
Vyāsa addresses Yudhiṣṭhira in a didactic passage, instructing him on dāna-dharma (the ethics of charity). The focus is on how properly directed giving becomes spiritually potent and produces enduring results beyond this life.
