Gandharva Encounter
utpapāta divaṁ śubhraḥ kālenābhipracoditam | te pibanta ivākāśaṁ trāsayantaś carācarān |
The verse underscores the irresistible agency of Kāla (Time): even the radiant and powerful are driven by Time’s impulse, and their sudden ascent inspires awe and fear across the whole cosmos.
Mārkaṇḍeya describes a radiant figure (or force) suddenly leaping into the sky, propelled by Time, in a manner so overwhelming that it seems to ‘drink’ the sky itself and terrifies all beings, both animate and inanimate.
