मातलिहयतत्त्वज्ञो यथावद् भूरिदक्षिण: । मातलि अश्वसंचालनकी कलाके मर्मज्ञ थे। सारथिके कार्यमें अत्यन्त कुशल थे। उन्होंने मन तथा वायुके समान वेगशाली अश्वोंको यथोचित रीतिसे आगे बढ़ाया
mātaliḥ yat tattvajño yathāvad bhūridakṣiṇaḥ |
अर्जुन म्हणाला—मातलि घोड्यांच्या चालण्याचे तत्त्व जाणणारे आणि अत्यंत दक्ष होते. सारथ्यकर्मात परम कुशल होऊन त्यांनी मन व वाऱ्यासारख्या वेगवान अश्वांना यथोचित रीतीने पुढे हाकले।
