Bhishma and Rama: Restraint and Withdrawal in the Engagement
tataḥ sā punar evātha kanyā rudram uvāca ha | upapasyeta kathaṃ deva striyā yudhi jayo mama ||
The verse frames a moral tension: personal resolve and the pursuit of justice meet social limitations. By turning to Rudra, the maiden seeks a dharmic means—divine guidance—to overcome obstacles and attain rightful victory.
Bhīṣma narrates that the maiden again approaches Rudra and asks how she, being a woman, can obtain victory in battle—setting up Rudra’s response and the subsequent course of events.
