Amba–Rama–Bhishma Dialogue on Vow and Refuge
sutāṃ kāśyasya kauravya matpriyārtha mahāmate | nahi te vidyate śāntir anyathā kurunandana ||
The verse emphasizes guru-śiṣya dharma: a disciple should not disregard a teacher’s rightful request, especially when it concerns restoring order and preventing harm. Peace (śānti) is presented as inseparable from acting in alignment with one’s acknowledged obligations.
Paraśurāma addresses Bhīṣma with forceful admonition, urging him to accept a particular maiden “for my sake,” and warns that refusal will deny him peace. The line functions as a pressure point in the unfolding dispute, intensifying the moral and emotional stakes.
