The verse highlights how vows of total destruction—aimed not only at an opponent but also at his supporting network—deepen the moral gravity of war. It invites reflection on dharma in conflict: resolve and duty can slide into vindictiveness and collective targeting, which increases ethical culpability and suffering.
Sañjaya reports a message intended for Suyodhana (Duryodhana): the speaker declares an intention to kill Droṇa along with his followers and relatives. It functions as a threat and a proclamation of determination, signaling an intensification of hostilities against a key Kaurava leader.
