भीष्मस्य दुर्योधनं प्रति कुलहितोपदेशः | Bhīṣma’s Counsel to Duryodhana on Dynastic Welfare

न च ते5यं समारम्भो मयि मोघो भविष्यति । वध्यान्‌ विषदह्ाान्‌ संग्रामे न हनिष्यामि ते सुतान्‌,परंतु मेरे पास आनेका जो कष्ट तुमने उठाया है, वह भी व्यर्थ नहीं होगा। संग्राममें तुम्हारे चार पुत्रोंको काबूके अंदर तथा वधके योग्य अवस्थामें पाकर भी मैं नहीं मारूँगा। वे चार हैं, अर्जुनको छोड़कर युधिष्ठिर, भीम, नकुल और सहदेव। युधिष्ठिरकी सेनामें अर्जुनके साथ ही मेरा युद्ध होगा

na ca te 'yaṃ samārambho mayi mogho bhaviṣyati | vadhyān viṣadagdḥān saṅgrāme na haniṣyāmi te sutān |

तू माझ्याकडे येऊन केलेला हा प्रयत्न व्यर्थ ठरणार नाही. रणांगणात तुझे पुत्र माझ्या ताब्यात आले आणि वधास योग्य अवस्थेत असले, तरीही मी त्यांचा वध करणार नाही. माझे युद्ध केवळ अर्जुनाशीच होईल; युधिष्ठिर, भीम, नकुल आणि सहदेव—या चौघांना मी सोडून देईन.
