आपद्धर्मे वैश्यवृत्तिः, विक्रय-निषेधाः, तथा ब्रह्म-क्षत्र-सम्बन्धः

भीष्म उवाच अशक्ति: क्षत्रधर्मेण वैश्यधर्मेण वर्तयेत् । कृषिगोरक्ष्यमास्थाय व्यसने वृत्तिसंक्षये
bhīṣma uvāca aśaktiḥ kṣatradharmeṇa vaiśyadharmeṇa vartayet | kṛṣigorakṣyam āsthāya vyasane vṛttisaṃkṣaye ||
भीष्म म्हणाला—क्षात्रधर्माने निर्वाह करण्यास अशक्त असल्यास वैश्यधर्मानुसार वागून जीवन चालवावे. आपत्तीत, जेव्हा नेहमीची उपजीविका कमी पडते, तेव्हा शेती व गो-रक्षण (पशुपालन) यांचा आश्रय घेऊन निर्वाह करावा.
