Brāhmaṇa-Dharma, Āśrama Eligibility, and the Primacy of Rāja-Dharma (Śānti Parva 63)

या संज्ञा विहिता लोके दासे शुनि वृके पशौ | विकर्मणि स्थिते विप्रे सैव संज्ञा च पाण्डव,पाण्डुनन्दन! लोकमें दास, कुत्ते, भेड़िये तथा अन्य पशुओंके लिये जो निन्दासूचक संज्ञा दी गयी है, अपने वर्णधर्मके विपरीत कर्ममें लगे हुए ब्राह्मणके लिये भी वही संज्ञा दी जाती है

yā saṁjñā vihitā loke dāse śuni vṛke paśau | vikarmaṇi sthite vipre saiva saṁjñā ca pāṇḍava ||

हे पाण्डवा! लोकात दास, कुत्रा, लांडगा व इतर पशूंना जी निंदासूचक संज्ञा दिली जाते, तीच संज्ञा आपल्या वर्णधर्माविरुद्ध कर्म करणाऱ्या ब्राह्मणालाही दिली जाते।
