धरण्यामथ लीनायामप्सु चैकार्णवे पुरा । ज्योतिर्भूते जले चापि लीने ज्योतिषि चानिले
dharaṇyām atha līnāyām apsu caikārṇave purā | jyotir-bhūte jale cāpi līne jyotiṣi cānile, nṛpaśreṣṭha adya tvaṁ pañcabhūtānām ātyantika-pralayasya vṛttāntaṁ śṛṇu |
वैशंपायन म्हणाले—पुरातन काळी जेव्हा धरणी एकार्णवाच्या जलात लीन झाली, आणि जल ज्योतीरूप होऊन ज्योतीत लीन झाले, व ती ज्योती वायूत विलीन झाली—तेव्हा क्रमाने सर्व भूतें आपल्या-आपल्या सूक्ष्म कारणांत परत लीन होत गेली. त्या वेळी कुठेही काही दिसत नव्हते; केवळ अंधकारच उरला होता.
