Atithi’s Direction to the Nāga-sage Padma at Naimiṣa (अतिथ्युपदेशः—नैमिषे पद्मनागोपाख्यानप्रस्तावः)
इत्थं च सुरासुरविशिष्टा ब्राह्मणा य एव मया ब्रह्मभूतेन पुरा स्वयमेवोत्पादिता: सुरासुरमहर्षयो भूतविशेषा: स्थापिता निगृहीताश्च
itthaṃ ca surāsuraviśiṣṭā brāhmaṇā ya eva mayā brahmabhūtena purā svayam evotpāditāḥ; surāsuramahārṣayo bhūtaviśeṣāḥ sthāpitā nigṛhītāś ca.
अशा प्रकारे ब्राह्मण देव आणि असुर यांच्याही पेक्षा श्रेष्ठ आहेत. पूर्वी मी स्वतः ब्रह्मरूप धारण करून त्या ब्राह्मणांना उत्पन्न केले. देव, असुर आणि महर्षी इत्यादी जे भूतविशेष आहेत, त्यांना ब्राह्मणांनीच त्यांच्या त्यांच्या अधिकारस्थानी स्थापिले; आणि अपराध झाल्यास त्यांना आवरून दंडही दिला.
