Craving-driven agitation weakens a person from within; when one becomes powerless under desire, the body and life-force decline and move toward ruin. The ethical lesson is to cultivate restraint and inner steadiness rather than being driven by compulsive wanting.
Nārada is instructing his listener in a reflective, didactic mode typical of Śānti Parva, describing the psychological condition of a desire-tormented person and its consequence: despite wanting to live, such a person is helplessly carried toward destruction by the very forces of craving and distress.
