नारदाद्‌ विदितं महामेतद्‌ ब्रह्म सनातनम्‌ | मा शुच: कौरवेन्द्र त्वं श्रुव्वैतत्‌ परमं पदम्‌

bhīṣma uvāca | nāradād viditaṃ mahad etad brahma sanātanam | mā śucaḥ kauravendra tvaṃ śṛṇvaitat paramaṃ padam ||

भीष्म म्हणाले—नारदांकडून मला हे महान सनातन ब्रह्म ज्ञात झाले आहे. हे कौरवेन्द्र! शोक करू नकोस; हे परमपदस्वरूप उपदेश ऐक.

That knowledge of the eternal Brahman—received through an authoritative sage-lineage—is the ‘supreme state’ (paramaṃ padam) and is presented as the remedy for grief: by turning the mind toward ultimate reality, sorrow rooted in worldly loss is to be relinquished.

Bhishma, instructing the Kuru king, introduces a high spiritual doctrine and legitimizes it by citing its transmission from Narada. He urges the listener to stop grieving and to hear the teaching that leads to the highest goal.
