Mahābhārata 12.293

धर्मादपेतं यत्‌ कर्म यद्यपि स्यान्महाफलम्‌ | न तत्‌ सेवेत मेधावी न तद्धितमिहोच्यते,धर्मके विपरीत कर्म यदि लौकिक दृष्टिसे बहुत लाभदायक हो तो भी बुद्धिमान्‌ पुरुषको उसका सेवन नहीं करना चाहिये; क्योंकि उसे इस जगतमें हितकर नहीं बताया जाता है

dharmād apetaṃ yat karma yady api syān mahāphalam | na tat seveta medhāvī na tad dhitam ihocyate ||

धर्मापासून दूर गेलेले कर्म लौकिक दृष्टीने मोठे फळ देत असले तरीही बुद्धिमान पुरुषाने ते करु नये; कारण असे कर्म येथे खरे हितकारक मानले जात नाही.
