Mahābhārata 12.292
स चाप्यग्न्याहितो विप्र: क्रिया यस्य न हीयते । श्रेयो हानाहिताग्नित्वमग्निहोत्रं न निष्क्रियम्
sa cāpy agnyāhito vipraḥ kriyā yasya na hīyate | śreyo hānāhitāgnitvam agnihotraṃ na niṣkriyam ||
आणि तोही अग्न्याधान केलेला ब्राह्मण, ज्याच्या विहित क्रिया कधीही ढळत नाहीत—अशा शिस्त व फलशक्ती नसलेल्या निष्क्रिय अग्निहोत्रापेक्षा अग्नी न राखणेच अधिक श्रेयस्कर आहे.
