उपह्वरे निवसतो यस्याड्के निषसाद ह । गड़ा भागीरथी तस्मादुर्वशी चाभवत् पुरा,“तटके निकट निवास करते समय गंगाजी राजा भगीरथकी गोदमें आ बैठी थीं। इसलिये वे पूर्वकालमें भागीरथी और उर्वशी नामसे प्रसिद्ध हुईं

वायू म्हणाला—नदीकाठी निवास करत असताना एकदा गंगा त्यांच्या मांडीवर येऊन बसली. त्या प्राचीन प्रसंगामुळे ती ‘भागीरथी’ आणि ‘उर्वशी’ या नावांनी प्रसिद्ध झाली.
