अध्याय २८६ — पराशर-उपदेशः
Ethical Restraint, Mortality, and Karma
विहितेनैव जीवन्ति अरोगाड़ा दिवौकस: । बलवन्तोडबलाश्वैव तस्मादस्मान् सभाजय,नीरोग शरीरवाले देवता, बलवान् और निर्बल सभी अपने प्रारब्ध-विधानके अनुसार जीवन धारण करते हैं; अतः हम भी प्रारब्धपर ही अवलम्बित रहकर किसी कर्मका आरम्भ नहीं करते हैं, इसलिये हमारे प्रति भी आप आदर बुद्धि रखें (अकर्मण्य समझकर हमारा निरादर न करें)
vihitenaiva jīvanti arogā divaukasaḥ | balavanto ’balāś caiva tasmād asmān sabhājaya ||
समद म्हणाला—देवही, जरी निरोग असले तरी, विधिलिखिताप्रमाणेच जगतात; बलवान आणि दुर्बल—दोघेही त्याच विधानाने जीवन धारण करतात. म्हणून आमचाही सन्मान करा; आम्हीही प्रारब्धावरच अवलंबून आहोत, स्वेच्छेने कर्मारंभ करत नाही—आम्हाला अकर्मण्य समजून तुच्छ लेखू नका.
