Āśrama-dharma and Brahmacarya: Śuka’s Inquiry on Karma and Tyāga
sāvitrī kuṇḍale divye śarīraṃ janamejayaḥ | brāhmaṇārthe parityajya jagmatur lokam uttamam ||
Selfless giving (dāna) and complete renunciation (tyāga), especially when done for a worthy cause such as supporting a brāhmaṇa, are presented as powerful dharmic acts that lead to the highest spiritual reward.
Vyāsa cites two exemplary deeds: Sāvitrī donates a pair of divine earrings, and King Janamejaya gives up his own life/body for a brāhmaṇa’s sake; as a result, both are said to attain the supreme realm.
