भीष्मजी कहते हैं--राजन्! वे गीध और गीदड़ दोनों ही भूखे थे और अपने उद्देश्यकी सिद्धिके लिये मृतकके बन्धु-बान्धवोंसे बातें करते थे। गीध कहता था कि सूर्य अस्त हो गये और सियार कहता था नहीं ।।
svakāryabaddhakakṣau tau rājan gṛdhro 'tha jambukaḥ | kṣutpipāsāpariśrāntau śāstram ālambya jalpataḥ ||
भीष्म म्हणाले—राजन्! गिधाड आणि कोल्हा दोघेही आपापला हेतू साध्य करण्यासाठी कटिबद्ध होते. भूक-प्यासेने त्रस्त होऊन ते शास्त्राचा आधार घेत वाद घालत होते—एक म्हणे ‘सूर्य मावळला’, दुसरा म्हणे ‘नाही मावळला’।
