तस्माद्‌ धर्म चरिष्यामि धर्मो हि परमा गति: । दृष्टो धर्मो हि धर्मिछे यादृशो विहगोत्तमे,“अहो! महात्मा कबूतरने अपने शरीरका दान करके मेरे सामने अतिथि-सत्कारका उज्ज्वल आदर्श रक्‍्खा है, अत: मैं भी अब धर्मका ही आचरण करूँगा; क्योंकि धर्म ही परम गति है। उस धर्मात्मा श्रेष्ठ पक्षीमें जैसा धर्म देखा गया है, वैसा ही मुझे भी अभीष्ट है

tasmād dharma cariṣyāmi dharmo hi paramā gatiḥ | dṛṣṭo dharmo hi dharmiṣṭhe yādṛśo vihagottame ||

म्हणून मी धर्माचाच आचरण करीन; कारण धर्म ही परम गती आहे. त्या धर्मात्मा श्रेष्ठ पक्ष्यात जसा धर्म मी पाहिला, तसाच धर्म मला ही अभिप्रेत आहे—महात्मा कबुतराने आपल्या देहाचे दान करून माझ्यासमोर अतिथी-सत्काराचा उज्ज्वल आदर्श उभा केला आहे.
