Daṇḍotpatti-kathana (Origin and Function of Daṇḍa) — वसुहोम–मान्धातृ संवाद

भर्तप्रत्यय उत्पन्नो व्यवहारस्तथापर: । तस्माद्‌ यः स हितो दृष्टो भर्तप्रत्ययलक्षण:

bhartapratyaya utpanno vyavahāras tathāparaḥ | tasmād yaḥ sa hito dṛṣṭo bhartapratyayalakṣaṇaḥ ||

भीष्म म्हणाले— स्वामी/अधिकार्‍यावरील विश्वासातूनही एक प्रकारचा न्यायव्यवहार उत्पन्न होतो; तो वादी-प्रतिवादीच्या वादातून निर्माण होणाऱ्या व्यवहारापेक्षा भिन्न आहे. म्हणून अशा विश्वासाच्या आधारावर जो निर्णय किंवा दंड दिला जातो, तो ‘भर्तृप्रत्ययलक्षण’ म्हणून ओळखला जातो; आणि तो सर्व जगाच्या हिताचा मानला गेला आहे.
