Vyāghra–Gomāyu Saṃvāda (व्याघ्रगोमायु संवाद) — Testing Character Beneath Appearances
शेरकी यह बात सुनकर उसकी माता हितकर वचनोंद्वारा उसे समझानेके लिये वहाँ आयी और बोली--'बेटा! इसमें कुछ कपटपूर्ण षड्यन्त्र हुआ मालूम पड़ता है; अतः तुम्हें इसपर विश्वास नहीं करना चाहिये ।।
śerakī etāṃ bātaṃ śrutvā tasyā mātā hitakaraiḥ vacanaiḥ taṃ bodhayituṃ tatra āgatya uvāca— “vatsa! atra kiñcit kapaṭapūrṇaṃ ṣaḍyantraṃ bhāti; ataḥ tvayā asmin viśvāso na kartavyaḥ. karma-saṅgharṣa-jaiḥ doṣaiḥ duṣṭaiḥ aśucibhiḥ śuciḥ (api) nirdoṣaḥ doṣyate. na uccitaṃ sahate kaścit prakriyā vaira-kārikā.”
भीष्म म्हणाले—हे ऐकून त्याची माता त्याच्या हितासाठी समजाविण्यास तेथे आली आणि म्हणाली—“बाळा! इथे काही कपटी कट-कारस्थान चालू आहे असे दिसते; म्हणून यावर विश्वास ठेवू नकोस. स्पर्धा व संघर्षातून उत्पन्न झालेल्या दोषांनी ज्यांचे मन मलिन होते, ते निर्दोषावरही दोषारोप करतात. दुसऱ्याला आपल्यापेक्षा उच्च स्थितीत पाहून काही जण ईर्ष्येने सहन करू शकत नाहीत; आणि तीच ईर्ष्या वैरात बदलते—हीच शत्रुता निर्माण करण्याची प्रक्रिया आहे.”
