Even divine beings confront limits of immediate knowledge: when a disruption occurs (Agni’s disappearance), one must seek the true cause rather than assume it. The verse underscores humility before cosmic law and the need for inquiry to restore order.
The devas come to Brahmā, the grandsire of the worlds, because Agni has mysteriously vanished. The situation is presented as unresolved—no cause is yet known—setting up a search for explanation and the restoration of balance.
