शल्यपरिघातः (Śalya Under Encirclement) — Mahābhārata, Śalya-parva, Adhyāya 12
श्रवणान्नामधेयानां पाण्डवानां च कीर्तनात्
śravaṇān nāmadheyānāṃ pāṇḍavānāṃ ca kīrtanāt
संजय म्हणाला—पांडवांची नावे केवळ ऐकली तरी, आणि त्यांच्या नावांचे कीर्तन केले तरीही…।
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the ethical and spiritual potency of śravaṇa (hearing) and kīrtana (recitation/praise): remembering the names of dharmic exemplars like the Pāṇḍavas is presented as intrinsically purifying and strengthening, even amid the violence and confusion of war.
Sañjaya, narrating events to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, introduces a statement that the very hearing and uttering of the Pāṇḍavas’ names has a significant effect—setting a tone of reverence for their renown and suggesting their moral stature within the unfolding battle narrative.
