अध्याय ९ — कर्णस्य प्रहारः, योधयुग्मनियोजनम्, शैनेय-कैकेययोर्युद्धविन्यासः
शेते विनिहतो वीरो देवेन्द्रेण इवाचल: । जैसे देवराज इन्द्रके द्वारा वज़से मारा गया पर्वत पृथ्वीपर पड़ा हो, उसी प्रकार मित्रोंकी अभय-दान देनेवाला वह महाथनुर्धर वीर कर्ण अर्जुनके हाथसे मारा जाकर रणभूमिमें सो रहा है

śete vinihato vīro devendreṇa ivācalaḥ |
तो वीर देवेन्द्राने पाडलेल्या पर्वताप्रमाणे मारला जाऊन पडला आहे. तसेच मित्रांना अभय देणारा तो महाधनुर्धर कर्ण अर्जुनाच्या हातून घायाळ होऊन रणभूमीवर शयन करीत आहे.
