भयातुरा एकरथौ समाश्रयं- स्ततो5भवत् त्वद्धुतमेव सर्वतः | तत्पश्चात् आपके और शत्रुपक्षेके सैनिक जब बाणोंसे फैले हुए अन्धकारमें कुछ भी देख न सके, तब भयसे आतुर हो उन दोनों प्रधान रथियोंकी शरणमें आ गये। फिर तो चारों ओर अद्भुत युद्ध होने लगा
sañjaya uvāca | bhayāturā ekarathau samāśrayaṃs tato 'bhavat tvadbhutam eva sarvataḥ | tatpaścāt āpake ca śatrupakṣe ca sainikāḥ yadā bāṇaiḥ prasṛte 'ndhakāre kiñcid api na paśyanti sma, tadā bhayāturāḥ tau dvau pradhāna-rathī samāśritāḥ | tataḥ sarvata adbhutaṃ yuddham abhavat ||
भयाने व्याकुळ झालेले योद्धे त्या दोन्ही प्रधान रथींच्या आश्रयास धावले. तेव्हा सर्वत्र अद्भुत आणि घोर युद्ध पेटले. पुढे, तुमच्या व शत्रुपक्षाच्या सैनिकांना बाणवृष्टीने पसरलेल्या अंधारात काहीच दिसेनासे झाले, तेव्हा भयग्रस्त होऊन ते त्या दोन्ही महावीरांच्या संरक्षणात एकवटले; आणि त्यानंतर सर्व दिशांनी युद्ध आश्चर्यकारक व अत्यंत तीव्र झाले.
