धृष्टद्युम्नस्तु समरे हार्दिक्यं नवभि: शरै: । आजपघानोरसि क्रुद्ध: पीडयन् हृदिकात्मजम्,धृष्टद्युम्नने कुपित होकर कृतवर्माको पीड़ा देते हुए उसकी छातीमें नौ बाण मारे
dhṛṣṭadyumnas tu samare hārdikyaṁ navabhiḥ śaraiḥ | ājaghānorasi kruddhaḥ pīḍayan hṛdikātmajam ||
समरात धृष्टद्युम्न क्रोधाने पेटून हृदिकपुत्र हार्दिक्य (कृतवर्मा) याला पीडा देत त्याच्या छातीत नऊ बाण घुसविले.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how anger (krodha) intensifies harm in warfare: even within the framework of kṣatriya duty, wrath pushes action from mere combat toward deliberate torment, illustrating the moral corrosion that prolonged conflict can produce.
Sañjaya reports that Dṛṣṭadyumna, enraged in the battlefield, shoots Kṛtavarmā (called Hārdikya/Hṛdikātmaja) in the chest with nine arrows, wounding and afflicting him.
