Yudhiṣṭhira’s Reproach to Dhanaṃjaya
tataḥ pravīrāḥ pāṇḍūnām abhyadhāvann amarṣitāḥ | yudhiṣṭhiraṃ parīpsantaḥ karṇam abhyardayan śaraiḥ ||

Even within the violence of battle, the verse highlights a dharmic impulse: protecting one’s leader and upholding responsibility to one’s side. The Pāṇḍava warriors’ action is framed as loyal guardianship—defense of Yudhiṣṭhira—though expressed through the harsh means permitted in war.
Sañjaya reports that the leading Pāṇḍava fighters, angered and resolute, rush forward to shield Yudhiṣṭhira. They then concentrate their attack on Karṇa, striking him repeatedly with arrows to relieve pressure on their king.
