ज्यातलनत्रेषुशब्दांश्न शृणु कर्ण महात्मनाम् | “कर्ण! बाणोंके भाँति-भाँतिके शब्द, मनुष्यों, घोड़ों और रथोंके कोलाहल तथा महामनस्वी वीरोंकी प्रत्यंचा और दस्तानोंके शब्द सुनो
Sañjaya uvāca: jyātalanatreṣuśabdāṃś ca śṛṇu karṇa mahātmanām | karṇa! bāṇānāṃ bhānti-bhāntike śabdān manuṣyāśva-ratha-kolāhalaṃ ca mahāmanasvī-vīrāṇāṃ pratyancā-dastāna-śabdāṃś ca śṛṇu ||
संजय म्हणाला—हे कर्ण, महात्मा वीरांचे नाद ऐक—धनुष्याच्या प्रत्यंचेची टंकार, रक्षणसामग्रीची चटचट, बाणांचे विविध शिट्टे व ठसके, आणि मनुष्य-घोडे-रथांचा घोर कोलाहल। ऐक, जणू रणभूमीच या कठोर युद्धधर्मात उतरलेल्या योद्ध्यांचा संकल्प व पराक्रम जाहीर करीत आहे।
