अमृदनात् समरे नाग: सम्प्रधावंस्ततस्तत: । उस हाथीने अत्यन्त कुपित होकर रथके समूहों, हाथियों, घुड़सवारोंसहित घोड़ों तथा सैकड़ों-हजारों पैदल सिपाहियोंको भी समरांगणमें इधर-उधर दौड़ते हुए रौंद डाला || ५५ - तेन संलोड्यमानं तु पाण्डवानां बल॑ महत्
amṛdanāt samare nāgaḥ sampradhāvaṃs tatastataḥ | tena saṃloḍyamānaṃ tu pāṇḍavānāṃ balaṃ mahat ||
समरात तो हत्ती अत्यंत क्रुद्ध होऊन इकडे-तिकडे धावत रथांचे समूह, हत्ती, घोडे-घोडेस्वार आणि शेकडो-हजारो पायदळ यांना तुडवीत गेला। त्याच्या वेगाने पांडवांची महान सेना ढवळून निघून विस्कळीत झाली।
