Garuḍa Array and the Ardhacandra Counter-Formation
गजान् कण्टकसन्नाहान् वज्रेणेव शिलोच्चयान् । रथा रथेषु संसक्ता व्यदृश्यन्त विशाम्पते,जिघांसन्तं युधां श्रेष्ठ तदा55सीत् तुमुलं महत् । संजय कहते हैं--राजन्! पाण्डवपक्षके लाखों क्षत्रियशिरोमणि महारथी विराट सेनापति शूरवीर श्वेतको आगे करके आपके पुत्र दुर्योधनको अपना बल दिखाते हुए शिखण्डीको सामने रखकर भीष्मके सुवर्णभूषित रथपर चढ़ आये। भारत! वे महारथी श्लेतकी रक्षा करना चाहते थे। इसलिये उसे मारनेकी इच्छावाले योद्धाओंमें श्रेष्ठ भीष्मपर उन्होंने धावा किया। उस समय बड़ा भयंकर युद्ध छिड़ गया उन बाणोंने वज्रके मारे हुए पर्वतोंकी भाँति काँटेदार कवचोंसे सुसज्जित हाथियोंको भी धराशायी कर दिया। प्रजानाथ! उस समय रथ रथोंसे सटे हुए दिखायी देते थे
sañjaya uvāca | gajān kaṇṭakasannāhān vajreṇeva śilocchayān | rathā ratheṣu saṃsaktā vyadṛśyanta viśāmpate | jighāṃsantaṃ yudhāṃ śreṣṭha tadā āsīt tumulaṃ mahat |
संजय म्हणाला—प्रजानाथ! काटेरी कवचांनी सज्ज हत्ती वज्राने फोडलेल्या पर्वतशिखरांसारखे कोसळताना दिसत होते. रथ रथांना चिकटून, एकमेकांत अडकलेले दिसत होते. जेव्हा श्रेष्ठ योद्धे मारण्याच्या हेतूने पुढे सरसावले, तेव्हा त्या क्षणी युद्ध महान् व अत्यंत भयानक तुमुल झाले.
