उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
सहस्रशो महाशब्द: शिखराणि पतन्ति च । जान पड़ता है, यह भूमि सहस्रों भूमिपालोंका रक्तपान करेगी। प्रभो! कैलास, मन्दराचल तथा हिमालयसे सहसों प्रकारके अत्यन्त भयानक शब्द प्रकट होते हैं और उनके शिखर भी टूट-टूटकर गिर रहे हैं
sahasraśo mahāśabdaḥ śikharāṇi patanti ca |
व्यास म्हणाले—सर्व दिशांनी सहस्रावधी भयंकर, गडगडाटी शब्द उठत आहेत आणि पर्वतांची शिखरे तुटून तुटून कोसळत आहेत. ही अपशकुने सूचित करीत आहेत की ही पृथ्वी असंख्य राजांचे रक्त पिण्यास सज्ज झाली आहे—धर्मावर महत्त्वाकांक्षेचे आच्छादन पडले की युद्धाचा अधर्ममय महासंहार अशा संकेतांनीच आधी प्रकट होतो।
