संहतानामनीकानां व्यूढानां भरतर्षभ । संसर्गात् समुदीर्णानां विमर्द: सुमहानभूत्,भरतश्रेष्ठ) संगठित, व्यूहबद्ध तथा युद्धविषयक उत्साहसे उद्यत हुए दोनों दलोंके योद्धाओंकी जब मुठभेड़ हुई, उस समय बड़ी भारी मार-काट मची थी
saṃhatānām anīkānāṃ vyūḍhānāṃ bharatarṣabha | saṃsargāt samudīrṇānāṃ vimardaḥ sumahān abhūt ||
संजय म्हणाले— “भरतश्रेष्ठ! संघटित व व्यूहबद्ध, युद्धासाठी सज्ज अशा दोन्ही दलांच्या सेनांचा परस्पर संसर्ग होताच अत्यंत भयंकर असा महान् संहार माजला.”
संजय उवाच
Even when armies are disciplined and act under the banner of duty, war’s momentum rapidly produces immense destruction; the verse underscores the ethical gravity and human cost that accompany martial engagement.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the two sides, drawn up in formations and stirred for battle, have met in close contact, and a massive, chaotic melee has erupted.
