Marutta Seeks a Priest: Bṛhaspati’s Refusal and Nārada’s Guidance to Saṃvarta
Chapter 6
स चेत् त्वामनुयुञ्जीत ममानुगमनेप्सया । शंसेथा वहल्लिमारूढं मामपि त्वमशड्कया,यदि वे तुमसे मेरे पास आनेके लिये मेरा पता पूछें तो तुम निर्भीक होकर कह देना कि “नारदजी आगमें समा गये”
sa cet tvām anuyuñjīta mamānugamanepsayā | śaṁsethā vahallimārūḍhaṁ mām api tvam aśaṅkayā ||
नारद म्हणाले—जर तो मला अनुसरण करण्याच्या इच्छेने तुला विचारेल, ‘नारद कुठे आहेत?’, तर तू निःशंक व निर्भय होऊन सांग—‘नारद अग्नीत प्रविष्ट झाले आहेत.’
नारद उवाच
The verse highlights fearless, decisive speech in service of a higher purpose: one should convey a message without hesitation when it is meant to prevent pursuit or attachment, reflecting a renunciatory ethic and strategic restraint.
Nārada instructs the listener that if someone asks where Nārada is—wanting to follow him—then the listener should plainly state that Nārada has gone into the fire, implying his disappearance and discouraging further pursuit.
