Kuntī–Vyāsa Dialogue on Durvāsā’s Boon and Karṇa’s Birth
evaṁ svenāgninā rājā samāyukto mahīpate | mā śocithās tvaṁ nṛpatiṁ gataḥ sa paramāṁ gatim, pṛthvīnātha ||
Grief should be tempered by discernment: when a person meets death through disciplined renunciation and attains a higher spiritual end, lamentation is not appropriate. The verse emphasizes detachment and trust in the moral-spiritual trajectory (gati) shaped by one’s life and austerity.
Nārada informs the addressed king (in context, Yudhiṣṭhira) that Dhṛtarāṣṭra has perished in a fire arising from his own ascetic circumstance—described as “his own fire”—and counsels him not to mourn, declaring that Dhṛtarāṣṭra has reached the supreme destination.
