Offerings for Ancestors and Their Stated Results
शक्ता हासि महीं कृत्स्नां वोढुं धारयितुं तथा । न हि ते किंचिदप्राप्पमन्यतो धारणादृते,“देवि! तुम सारी पृथ्वीको धारण करनेमें समर्थ हो, फिर इस गर्भको धारण करना तुम्हारे लिये कुछ असाध्य नहीं है”
śaktā hāsi mahīṁ kṛtsnāṁ voḍhuṁ dhārayituṁ tathā | na hi te kiṁcid aprāpyam anyato dhāraṇād ṛte |
“देवि! तू संपूर्ण पृथ्वीला वहन व धारण करण्यास समर्थ आहेस; म्हणून हा गर्भ धारण करणे तुझ्यासाठी अशक्य नाही—धारणावाचून जे असंभव, त्याव्यतिरिक्त तुला काहीही अप्राप्य नाही.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse emphasizes capacity aligned with duty: one who can uphold a vast responsibility (like sustaining the earth) should not shrink from a smaller, specific obligation (bearing an embryo). It frames endurance and protection as expressions of dharma and cosmic order.
Bhīṣma addresses a Devī, praising her world-sustaining power and reassuring her that carrying the pregnancy is well within her ability. The statement functions as encouragement grounded in her known cosmic role as supporter of the earth.
