तत्पाणिग्रहणात् पूर्वमन्तरं यत्र वर्तते । सर्वमड्रलमन्त्रं वै मृषावादस्तु पातक:
tat-pāṇigrahaṇāt pūrvam antaraṃ yatra vartate | sarva-maṅgala-mantraṃ vai mṛṣāvādas tu pātakaḥ ||
भीष्म म्हणाले—कन्येच्या पाणिग्रहणापूर्वी जर कुठे अंतर किंवा अडथळा निर्माण झाला—जरी सर्व मंगलाचार व मंत्रप्रयोग झालेले असले—आणि मग कन्या दुसऱ्या योग्य वराला दिली गेली, तर दात्यास केवळ मिथ्याभाषणाचे पाप लागते।
