पात्रलक्षण-परिक्षा (Pātra-Lakṣaṇa Parīkṣā) — Criteria for a Worthy Recipient
ब्राह्मणं जातिसम्पन्नं धर्मज्ञं संशितं शुचिम् । अपरेषां परेषां च परेभ्यश्रैव येडपरे
brāhmaṇaṁ jātisampannaṁ dharmajñaṁ saṁśitaṁ śucim | apareṣāṁ pareṣāṁ ca parebhyaś caiva ye ’pare ||
वायुदेव म्हणाले—उत्तम कुलात जन्मलेला, धर्मज्ञ, संयमी व पवित्र असा ब्राह्मण (उत्पन्न व्हावा व असावा) अशीही कामना करावी. लहान-मोठ्या सर्वांमध्ये, आणि मोठ्यांमध्येही, ब्राह्मणच श्रेष्ठ मानले गेले आहेत. असे ब्राह्मण ज्याची प्रशंसा करतात तो मनुष्य वाढतो; आणि जो ब्राह्मणांची निंदा करतो तो लवकरच पराभव पावतो.
