एवमुक्तस्तदात्रिरवँ तमोनुदभवच्छशी । अपश्यत् सौम्यभावाच्च सोमवत् प्रियदर्शन:
evam uktas tadātrir avaṁ tamonudabhavac chaśī | apaśyat saumyabhāvāc ca somavat priyadarśanaḥ |
भीष्म म्हणाले— देवांनी असे सांगताच अत्रींनी तत्क्षणी अंधार दूर करणाऱ्या चंद्राचे रूप धारण केले. सौम्य व शांत स्वभावामुळे ते सोमासारखेच प्रियदर्शन दिसू लागले आणि त्यांनी शांत दृष्टीने देवांकडे पाहिले. मग चंद्र व सूर्याची प्रभा मंद झालेली पाहून, अत्रींनी आपल्या तपोबलाने त्या रणभूमीत प्रकाश पसरवला; अंधार दूर करून संपूर्ण जग उजळून टाकले।
