उपेन्द्रो वामन: प्रांशुरमोघ: शुचिरूर्जित: । अतीन्द्र: संग्रह: सर्गो धृतात्मा नियमो यम:
upendro vāmanaḥ prāṁśur amoghaḥ śucir ūrjitaḥ | atīndraḥ saṁgrahaḥ sargo dhṛtātmā niyamo yamaḥ ||
भीष्म म्हणाले—तो उपेन्द्र, तो वामन; त्रिविक्रमरूपाने लोकांपलीकडे पाऊल टाकणारा उन्नत व व्यापक आहे. त्याची क्रिया अमोघ आहे; तो शुचि—स्मरण, स्तुती व पूजन करणाऱ्यांना पवित्र करणारा; तो अत्यंत बलवान आहे. तो अतीन्द्र—स्वयंसिद्ध ज्ञान व ऐश्वर्याने इंद्रालाही अतिक्रमण करणारा. तो ‘संग्रह’—प्रलयकाळी सर्वांना समेटणारा; तो ‘सर्ग’—सृष्टीचे कारण. तो धृतात्मा—अजन्मा असूनही स्वेच्छेने रूप धारण करणारा. तो ‘नियम’—जीवांना त्यांच्या मर्यादेत ठेवणारा; आणि तो ‘यम’—हृदयात स्थित राहून अंतःकरणातून नियमन करणारा.
